A creative Summer

 

I’m just emerging from a very busy month. But also a very creative one! July is when the Summer Festival of Arts and Education that Warren organizes at the Rudolf Steiner Centre Toronto takes place. This year the festival ran for three weeks and the offers of workshops were amazing.

I took part in weeks 2 and 3 while my girls enjoyed the Summer camp at school. It was hard to choose which workshops to take. On week 2 and I ended up opting for those who appeared most challenging to me: creative writing and metal work, go figure that decision! On week 3 I went for the fun and chose painting.  I had a blast in all the three courses. Creative writing was a joy, specially having Paul Matthews – our dear friend from England – as the teacher.  I also really loved what I produced in the Magic of Work workshop though I was a bit out of my comfort zone working in a medium that I’m not do familiar with. But now that I got to have a taste of it, I wish I had more time in the metal shop to make a few more things! As for painting, I enjoyed this technique called growing a painting. It’s a seven stage process in which you start with areas of colour and without any intention of form. Then you slowly add layers of colour until it was time to look for the form starting to emerge -  in this workshop we were looking for the human form. Then it is time to flesh it out and add more detail to it. I thought it was a wonderful exercise in being open to what wants to be!

But Summer is not finished yet…  We’ll be away for a good chunk of time now but I might pop in for an update or two, time permitting.

To acabando de sair de um mês super agitado. Mas também um que foi muito criativo. Julho é quando acontece o Summer Festival of Arts and Education que o Warren organiza no Rudolf Steiner Centre Toronto. Esse ano o festival durou três semanas com as oficinas uma mais interessante do que a outra.

Eu particpei das semanas 2 e 3 enaquanto as meninas curtiram a colônia de férias da escola. Foi difícil escolher os cursos e eu acabei fazendo a oficina de escrita criativa e trabalho em metal na semana 2. Engraçado é que são dois temas que me desafiam! Na semana três eu escolhi pintura por pura diversão. Eu curti todos os três cursos. Escrita criativa foi muito legal, principalmente porque o professor era o nosso querido amigo Paul Matthews, da Inglaterra. Eu amei tudo o que produzi na oficina de metal, foi o processo que foi penoso. Mas agora, já tendo um pouco de experiência com o meio eu queria um pouquinho mais de tempo na oficina para fazer umas coisinhas a mais. E da pintura eu curti muito o processo de sete estágios onde se começa apenas com areas de cores e sem a intenção de forma. Depois aos poucos vai se adicionando outras camadas de cores até o ponto em que formas começam a surgir -  nessa oficina procuramos pela forma humana. Depois de indentificada é hora de defini-la e detalhá-la. Eu achei o processo um exercício muito incrível em estar aberto para o que quer vir a ser!
